Creative Index Card Valentines for Students
These cute Valentine’s Day cards are made using blank index cards, making them the perfect size for passing around in a classroom. They are made with rubber stamps, colored, and decorated with conversation hearts, and cute Valentine’s Day sayings. The back of the card has a place to attach candy or an eraser. These note cards are fun to make with your child and family members.

My older children and I made these to pass out to their classmates on Valentine’s Day one year and we had so much fun as we brought them over to Grandma’s house and worked on them together. Making these cards with the special people in your life adds to the charm of these little cards.

What kind of index cards work best?
Blank 3×5 index cards work well for these cards, as I decorate one side of the card, and on the reverse, I write in who the card is going to and who it is from. If you are unable to find unlined index cards the lined ones will work as well, using the lined side for the back of the card.
Decorating with rubber stamps.
I have quite a collection of rubber stamps now and it all started by making these cards. We bought a few Valentine’s Day rubber stamps from the dollar section at our local craft store and made these Valentine’s Day index cards and we were hooked! You do not need a large collection of rubber stamps to make these just a few to make a couple of designs and a stamp that says “Happy Valentine’s Day or Be Mine” and you will be set to create these fun little cards.
If you do not have Valentine’s Day-themed stamps but have a few regular rubber stamps you can use what stamps you have and add little hearts to your picture. One of my favorite cards came from a stamp with a mailbox and a bird on top, I glued a cut-out heart into the bird’s mouth and wrote “be mine” on the heart.
Finding the Right Valentine’s Quotes
My favorite way to customize these Valentine’s is with sayings and little conversation hearts. You can add the conversation hearts by using a heart paper punch or tracing, cutting out little hearts, and writing on the heart.
- XOXO
- BE MINE
- LOVE
- FRIENDS
- YOU ROCK
- SMILE
- LOL
- BEST FRIEND
- LOVE BUG
- SWEET
What do you use the back of your card for?
The back of the card can be used to write who the card is for and who it is from, this is also where you can tape an individually wrapped candy or eraser. I like to stamp a heart where the chocolate or eraser will go.
When should you give these out?
These make great Valentine’s Day cards for students to pass out to their classmates. If your child is homeschooled have your child place their Valentine into an envelope and send it to friends and family members.
Extra cards make great love notes to place on your children’s or Husband’s lunch bags.
Making Cards With Young Children
These cards can be made by children or an adult can stamp them for the child and let them color it in. The card in the photo was done by my 5 year old. It is fun to see the designs they come up with on there own.

Variations
If you do not have rubber stamps have your child color pictures and add stickers to their designs or leave them as is.
Another fun idea is to give your child an old magazine to cut out pictures from and they can paste the pictures on their Valentine’s cards. Gardening magazines work great for this.

Step-By-Step Instruction
-
Start with a blank 3×5 index card, place the card upright or lengthwise depending on the design you want to make, and choose your stamps and ink for the top design. Stamp your design on the card.
-
Once your design is stamped color it in and add a conversation heart or any other decorations you choose.
To make a conversation heart you can use a heart paper punch or trace a heart onto colored construction paper, write your message, and cut it out with scissors. Use a glue stick to attach it to the card. -
Flip the card over and write or stamp (To:) and (From:). Then stamp a heart or other design under the personalization to mark the spot where the chocolate or eraser will be attached.
-
Using double-sided tape attach a chocolate heart or eraser to the back of the card in the marked spot.
-
(opt. step) You can place the final card into a Valentine’s treat bag if you want this helps to keep the chocolate or eraser from falling off if it is not sticking on well. These can be found at the dollar store or on Amazon.
-
Advanced step: If you are layering your designs, modifying the stamped design, or worried about imperfections stamp your designs onto a blank piece of paper, color and cut out the design, and use a glue stick to attach it to the Valentine’s card.
